Friday 4 July 2025 Newton Farm Ecology Park Trip 2025 On Friday 27th June and Friday 4th July 2025, our Year 4 Green Ambassadors enjoyed an exciting and educational trip to Newton Farm Ecology Park, where they took part in litter picking and pond dipping activities. The visit was packed with hands-on learning, and outdoor fun focusing on the environment and sustainability. Armed with gloves and litter-pickers, the children enthusiastically helped to clean up the park, pond and stream, learning the importance of caring for our local environment and the impact of waste on wildlife. Both groups collected a surprising amount of rubbish and felt proud to make a difference. During the pond dipping session, pupils explored local pond and stream habitats using petri dishes and microscopes, where they observed many freshwater creatures in great detail, and used dichotomy keys to identify their names, using their skills learnt in our science topic earlier in the year on grouping and classifying living things.

As part of our eco-initiative, the children took part in caring for our school garden where they learnt how plants grow, the importance for caring for the environment, working as a team and how to use tools to extract weeds safely. The activity ended with a well deserved refreshment in the shade.

Thursday 5 June 2025 YES Fest Harrow 2025 On Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June 2025, six of our Green Ambassadors embarked on an exciting sustainability journey to the Youth Eco Summit Festival – YES Fest – Harrow. The event started at Harrow School, where the children participated in a carousel of activities, which included a seminar hosted by the Eden Project, where the children learnt how important rainforests are to our planet. After a short break, the children then attended three environmental themed activities where they made clay characters using leaves, twigs and foliage from the forest, practiced breathing exercises among the trees, inducing peace and calm. They also had to design a building using sustainable construction practices and materials, inspired by the science block at Harrow School. The children also had the pleasure of meeting Harrow's Nature Conservationist, who helped them identify various species found in the school's lake, and learnt interesting facts about them.
